ABOUT US

THE MASTERMINDS BEHIND THE PROJECT.

It is an NGO based on the border between Bistrița-Năsăud and Suceava counties, established in 2000 by Alin Uhlmann Ușeriu. Over the years, more than 130,000 volunteers have been involved in its environmental, social, cultural, and sports projects. These are the people who carry the association’s mission forward through the story of Via Transilvanica, the organization’s largest project to date.

Via Transilvanica is Romania’s first long-distance hiking trail, crossing the country from Putna to Drobeta-Turnu Severin over 1,600 km, including its extensions, secondary routes that branch off from the main artery, Via maior.

“The path that unites” is, first and foremost, a social project through which entire communities that were once facing the risk of disappearing are given a new purpose and an opportunity for economic development through slow and mindful tourism. The main character of this story, the hiker, does not seek luxury. They are content with the basics and know how to appreciate the value of local products. They respect the people in the communities they visit and approach the journey with curiosity and goodwill.

UmanEast Association is a cultural research and development organization that creates residencies, continuing education programs, and humanities research projects aimed at revitalizing the cultural heritage of the Romanian-speaking world and bringing it into dialogue with the values and institutions that shape Europe.

We believe that only by placing our trust in one another, in our communities, and in the European project can we contribute to strengthening democratic values.

Radio România Cultural is the only radio station with a comprehensive cultural profile, broadcasting original productions nationally and internationally. It informs and engages audiences through programmes dedicated to science, literature, history, visual arts, philosophy, film and theatre, broadcasts from major cultural events, festivals and award ceremonies in Romania and around the world, and offers premium entertainment, from radio theatre performances and opera evenings to the Radio Musical Season.

For almost 100 years, it has been part of the history of contemporary Romanian culture. It actively contributes to cultural life through projects that aim to educate through culture, preserves the voices of Romanian culture through the Radio România Golden Sound Archive, and celebrates excellence through the Radio România Cultural Awards Gala, a prestigious long-standing event. Within the Terra Memoriae project, Radio România Cultural is the curator of the residencies and a media partner.
